De één-na-laatste Top12. Vandaag twaalf+ liedjes van de man die ik mijn geestelijk vader noem. Deze lijst had ook een Top 75 kunnen zijn.. Een kleine aanvulling:

etc. etc..

Voor mij is er uiteindelijk maar 1 singer/songwriter die me ALTIJD weer weet te raken. Lyrics die anders zijn dan alle lyrics van alle andere christelijke songwriters.. Of met de woorden van Michael W. Smith: "Nobody on this planet wrote songs like Rich did." Zo is het!

Daarbij was hij ook nog eens een begaafd musicus. Hij bespeelde meesterlijk de piano en hammered dulcimer. En daarnaast nog vele andere snaarinstrumenten. Last but not least; Rich was een bijzondere en vooral wijze (Bijbel)leraar.

Richard Wayne "Rich" Mullins. Inmiddels alweer ruim 18 jaar de tijd voor eeuwigheid ingewisseld, 19 september 1997. Hij werd het meest bekend door zijn lied: Awesome God.

Of werd MWS daar het meest bekend mee? ;-)

Hij schreef misschien wel duizend liedjes maar liet ons er zo'n 100 officieel op albums achter. Ze zijn het meer dan waard om ontdekt te worden. Weer eens iets anders dan die commerciële herhalingen dat de meeste moderne 'worship' is, meen ik.

Er wordt vandaag gesproken en gepreekt over Gods liefde, genade, heiligheid en heilig leven.

De laatste twee staan vaak in een voor ons moeilijk te verdragen contrast met Gods liefde en genade, niet? Waarom is het zo dat regelmatig het ene òf het andere de boventoon voert in een preek? Maar wat is Gods liefde zonder besef van Zijn heiligheid en vice versa? .. Een schel metaal als blik ...
Het is ÉÉN.
Want op een Dag zullen we moeten verschijnen voor God die onze Rechter is.. En enkel het kruisoffer van Jezus dat genade bracht, zal ons aan zijn toorn doen ontkomen. Een grotere liefde bestaat niet.

Laten we eerlijk zijn: In 't geestelijke leven gaat het nooit maar dan ook nòòit om personen.. Om predikers of so-called "worship leaders". De samenkomst is nog niet over en we zeggen zonder schroom tegen elkaar: En, hoe vond je het?! Hoe vond je de spreker(s)? Enne, wat zullen we zo gaan eten?  Tja..

Goed, met 'moderne worship' heb ik over het algemeen gewoon niets. Vind het te vaak (repeterende) commerciële meuk. Sorry. Geef mij alsjeblieft de puurheid van bijvoorbeeld een Keith Green, Rich Mullins, 2nd Chapter of Acts en Adrian Snell's van deze wereld.

Na de jaren '90 is er niet veel goede muziek meer gemaakt meen ik. De smaak vervlakt in rap tempo, gelijk de smaakpapillen in den post-moderne mensch ..
Gelukkig hebben we de foto's, ehh, CD's nog. In ons geval Youtube.
